I have tried every deodorant there is, I started off my teen years using Tom’s, which worked great until I started to hit the sweaty part of puberty. Once I realized that Tom’s wasn’t cutting it (for me) I tried almost every drugstore deodorant. From Secret to Dove, nothing would work. Well some days it would, and others I would have to reapply all day to feel secure, and that’s not what I wanted from a deodorant. I wanted to feel safe and happy with my pits! Then I found Secret Clinical Strength Antiperspirant and Deodorant, which worked wonders! However, there was one big problem. It is not healthy. The chemicals like aluminum in deodorant can cause cancer and antiperspirant prevents you from sweating which is a natural process for our bodies! Last year I realized I couldn’t continue pretending that a product I relied so heavily on wasn’t bad for my health.
So, I did my research and I did something about it.
First, I checked out all the “Must Have” natural deodorants on the market. I went to my local Whole Foods and tried some of theirs and ordered others online. Most of them, didn’t do much for me. The only one that I still have in my apartment is the LUSH T’eo deodorant because my boyfriend uses it and it works great for him. I would highly recommend it if you’re deodorant needs are more normal and are looking for a natural option. Make sure to buy the deodorant tin though… it is quite a messy but lovely product.
Then I saw that I could make my own. This is something I wanted to do. I read many recipes and How To’s and decided on one to try. I also learned that an armpit cleanse or detox is important to do when switching to a natural option. So for around a week I did not wear deodorant and a couple times a day I spread apple cider vinegar mixed with water on my pits (I also washed them a couple times a day, I promise it wasn’t that gross). This really benefitted me. I think my skin was clogged with chemicals and product build up, so no matter what product I used I thought I smelled and this flushed that out. Now I don’t mind going deodorant free on days off.
Now onto the deodorant I use now, and swear by! It is the best deodorant I have ever used. I don’t ever feel smelly while using it even after a long gym session. IT IS AMAZING!

- 15 drops Lemon Grass essential oil (Buy Here)
- 15 drops Lavender essential oil (Buy Here)
- 3 TBSP Coconut Oil (I use the one from Trader Joe’s)
- 2 TBSP Organic Cornstarch (Buy Here)
- 2 TBSP Baking Soda (Mine is from the Whole Foods brand)
- 2 TBSP Candelilla Wax (vegan substitute to Beeswax) (Buy Here)
