Happy Friday! This week I tested a recipe I have thought about trying forever. VEGAN CHEEZ ITS. The recipe is made by the famous Minimalist Baker. I have wanted to make gluten free Cheez Its since I went gluten free in the 6th grade (Cheez Its happened to be my favorite childhood snack not that my parents really ever let me have them haha), but now that I have added vegan into the mix I thought I wouldn’t ever get to taste a Cheez It substitution again.. but I thought wrong!
Here we go, on our way to CHEEZ ITS and what I had to say about them!
I was so excited about this recipe and I do have to say these little crackers are addicting and get better the more you eat. They are definitely a snack where you can’t just eat one. But, if you are expecting an exact Cheez It taste you won’t find that here, but it is similar, of course you could add more Nutritional Yeast to make it cheesier but I loved the slight cheesiness of the recipe. What I am trying to say is these are very delicious crispy crackers but don’t be sad when they don’t have the processed taste you remember, they are the upgraded version!! Overall I give this recipe a 10/10, so easy to make and I am still dreaming about them. They will no doubt become a staple snack to have in the house for dipping and eating 🙂
This recipe is not gluten-free but can easily be made gluten-free. I subbed the all purpose flour and oat flour for gluten-free all purpose flour. I also found that since gluten-free flour can often be more crumbly than regular flour I had to add in 5 tablespoons of water to make it into a dough I could roll out.
- 2 tablespoons of Nutritional Yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 3/4 cups + 2 tablespoons of gluten-free all purpose flour
- 3 tablespoons of yellow corn meal
- 1/4 teaspoon of baking powder
- 3 tablespoons of olive oil
- 5 tablespoons of water

This is such an awesome recipe I really hope everyone tries this one out! & a big thank you to Minimalist Baker for coming up with a great recipe, it is a good one hehe!
